The Agency's Lifeblood!
While the mission of Senior Services is accomplished through an array of
innovative programs, the success of each and every program hinges on the on-going
efforts of fund development. Consistent, successful, and creative fundraising
provide the lifeblood of the agency. Donations are regularly solicited from
corporations and foundations but a significant portion of the
agency's community support comes from individuals. As part of its stewardship responsibility, Senior Services strives to keep its donors fully informed about the many ways their contributions are being translated into vital human services. Because Senior Services is structured as a 501-C3 non-profit organization, all contributions are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
Connection
Often the
decision to contribute financial support to Senior
Services or one of its programs or centers is the
way an individual first connects with the agency. It
might involve participation in a special event, a
telephone call to the Information and Assistance
line, a recommendation from a friend, a volunteer
role or simply a response to a fundraising appeal
that leads to a contribution in support of Senior
Services. Almost always gifts are inspired by a
compassion for the needs of the older people in each
of our lives, parents, grandparents, neighbors,
relatives and friends. When we acknowledge that our community safety net should
rightly extend to the elderly, especially to those with acute needs, a gift to
Senior Services is a choice with far reaching impact.
What your gift provides
By making a gift to Senior Services, donors positively affect the lives of older people in many ways. The Meals on Wheels Program delivers nutritionally balanced meals directly to the homes of those unable to cook or shop for themselves. For just $230, Senior Services covers the cost of a
month's worth of meals for a homebound senior or a month's worth of weekday hot lunches through our Community Dining program. At 24 locations throughout King County, lunches are provided for older men and women in a warm and friendly setting staffed by volunteers. Seniors who no longer drive depend on the Volunteer Transportation Program for rides to important medical appointments. $50 goes a long way in paying for gas. Older
adults wishing to remain in their own homes and needing some assistance with minor plumbing, electrical or carpentry problems can call the Minor Home Repair
program. A donation of $100 helps purchase supplies needed for these repairs. With a rapidly growing senior population in King County, all programs are facing increased demand. Future fundraising goals must also be adjusted upward to support uninterrupted service to more and more older adults.
Senior Services Comprehensive Capital & Endowment Campaign
On Wednesday, November 14th, 2001, friends and supporters of Senior Services gathered together to celebrate the groundbreaking for Senior Services first permanent home in the 34 year history of the agency. The Lillian Rice Center, completed at the end of 2002, contains three floors of program and administrative space for Senior Services, and five additional floors of low-income housing for seniors. However this comprehensive capital campaign was about much more than a building. It was about having a recognizable presence in the community, reaching a greater number of clients with more services and upgraded program support, capital expansion at the Senior Centers, and major renovations at the Senior Center of West Seattle. Events: Spring Breakfast
& Soiree
Every year we host two major events - a Spring
Breakfast and a Fall dinner and auction, Soiree.
Hundreds of people throughout the community come
together to celebrate longevity and support those
who are facing challenges while aging. The
money raised at these events is integral to keep
this agency running!
